The Scrumptious Wicks Story

Hi there, I'm Sonya! I'm what you call a self-proclaimed candle obsessive, and I founded Scrumptious Wicks out of necessity. I was burning through candles so quickly that I would often hesitate to light them because I just wanted them to last longer!

Finally in 2017, I decided that there had to be something better, so I set out to make my own scented candles.

The Ingredients. As I did my research, I found that candles sold in most department stores were made with paraffin, which is a petroleum by-product that can release harmful toxins into the air. Soy wax, however, is a great all natural alternative that not only burns cleaner and longer compared to paraffin wax, but is sustainable and made from American farmer-grown soybeans. This, along with lead-free wicks and phthalate-free fragrances, makes for a candle that virtually releases no soot or smoke. That’s why I only use these high-quality ingredients in all of my scented candles — so that they can be enjoyed by your entire family. Plus, with longer burn times, you’ll get more bang for your buck than those department store candles!

The Inspiration. I often draw inspiration for candle scents from cooking, travelling, and even my memories of growing up in an Indian-American household; the woody aroma of incense sticks burning or the spicy, warm scent of masala chai brewing on the stove — these are scents that evoke feelings of comfort and home to me and I love sharing them with the world. The scents are a tribute to my unique upbringing in an Indian and Western household. I love that my friends from all backgrounds can celebrate their own cultures and everyone is connected through memories of scent and aromas.

The Scrumptious. I am also a Food Network junkie. So naturally, when I was coming up with candle scents, I would always gravitate towards the food-inspired ones (hello Cookie Butter!). It was important for me to include my favorite Indian-inspired “scrumptious scents” too -- like the mangoes I ate everyday with my family in the summer (hello Mango Lassi!). You'll find that there's something for everyone to enjoy here!
